GROWING IN GRACE TOGETHER

What does this mean at Old Town Church? The phrase speaks to a journey of collective spiritual development, rooted in the grace that is a cornerstone of Christian faith.

Growing

In His grace, God accepts us as we are, but it’s His desire that we don’t remain the same. It’s God’s will that His children will continually grow and exhibit the fruit of His Holy Spirit in their lives. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control.” Galatians 5:22

Grace

In many religions rules and commandments, as well as rewards and punishments are used to motivate good behavior. But according to the Apostle Paul, these things never really produced righteousness (Romans 3:20). We believe that it’s the message of God’s unconditional love for us, demonstrated toward us in the death of Christ on our behalf, that has the power to transform our lives and turn our hearts toward God. It’s His Grace that teaches us to say ‘no’ to sin and live in a way that honors God. (Titus 2:11-13)

Together

When we add "together" to this concept, it emphasizes the communal aspect of faith. If we’re not connected in relationship with other believers, we won’t grow. We believe that the most effective way for us to grow spiritually is in community with other Christ followers who are operating in their God-given Spiritual gifts. It's about creating an environment where everyone, regardless of their background or stage in their faith journey, can feel welcomed, valued, and experience spiritual growth.

Old Town Church's Statement of Faith

  • We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God. (2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:20-21)

  • We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Genesis 1:26-27; Matthew 28:19)

  • We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and in His personal return in power and glory. (John 1:1-5; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4)

  • We believe that for the salvation of lost and sinful people, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential. (John 14:16-17; Acts 1:8)

  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a godly life. (Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25)

  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 12:1214; Ephesians 4:3)
