Joe Matteson

Though I didn't grow up in the church, I learned about Jesus in VBC each summer for several years as a kid. I accepted Jesus (after, of course, He accepted me...) in March of 1993 and have been trying to learn more about Him and His will for me along the way. My wife (of 28 years) Jan and I have attended church regularly together since 1993, first at Village Baptist, then at Calvary Chapel in Santa Fe when we lived in New Mexico, and for about the last six years at Sonrise FG, now Old Town. I serve in the Children's Ministry once each month, and we have tithed regularly since we began attending church back in 1993. When we married we each brought one child to the marriage. Our grandkids have attended Sonrise FG/Old Town (though not recently), and my daughter Marissa, 33, serves in her church in Carlton. We are truly blessed.

Bob Hayes

Hello, my name is Robert Hayes. It has been almost forty years since I met Jesus the Messiah and received the indwelling of Holy Spirit. The transformation of my life after this occurrence has been wonderful. Not only did I now understand my place in the universe, but my marriage was healed and my wife was delivered from alcoholism. My children, their spouses, and my grandchildren are Christ followers. Jesus renews me and heals me every day.

I am married to Susan, my wife of 54 years. We have two adult children and are blessed with five grandchildren. In our house are two wonderful dogs and a rotten cat which survives only because of the grace of my tender wife. I graduated from Forest Grove High School in 1960. After attending Seattle Pacific College for two years, I eventually graduated from Portland State with a B.S. in general studies. Shortly thereafter I joined the military and served for 27 years achieving the rank of colonel.

In the military we were blessed to see and experience many parts of the United States and the world. Eventually we moved to Hood River so I could windsurf-I wanted to at least try to keep up with my son. We have now moved back to the family farm located south of Cornelius. It is very satisfying to now work the same land I worked over sixty years ago. We grow filberts (hazelnuts).

My hobbies include running. I am perfecting a style known as the old man’s shuffle. I am also proficient in stand up paddle board surfing. For the past few years I have co-led a Bible study group. My particular interest is blood covenant.
