The Winter Shelter of Forest Grove and Cornelius is a community run sheltering project. We currently are operating under three different fiscal sponsors, Old Town Church Forest Grove, United Church of Christ Forest Grove and the Forest Grove Foundation. We provide shelter during the 19 coldest weeks of the year, and strive to provide transition, outreach, and advocacy services year round. We served over 150 individuals last winter. We rely heavily on community donations of time, resources, and space to make our shelter possible.
"This shelter was founded in 2008 by the United Church of Christ as a part of the Washington County Severe Weather Shelter, they were one of the original 6 chuches who responded to a county ask to come forward and host shelter. In 2015 the Severe Weather Shelter transitioned into being known as the Temporary Emergency Shelter, this was due to a move from providing shelter on inclement weather nights only, to guaranteeing shelter every Monday and Tuesday night. By early 2016 Sonrise Church Forest Grove, now Old Town Church Forest Grove, joined the effort guaranteeing shelter Wed and Thurs evening. In Fall 2019 we entered our second year partnering with Emanuel Lutheran to host at their church in Cornelius on Wed and Thurs evening. We move forward under the name Winter Shelter to hold as true as we can to the service we are providing."
To Donate please navigate to the Forest Grove Foundation and click on Donate on the top right of the screen. You will be prompted on how you want to donate as well as the amount and frequency. You'll see a Note section once you've made these selections. Please type Winter Shelter here and rest assured your donation is making a HUGE difference in your local community.
